About
the Director
Amy Karp has a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Michigan. After many years as a legal researcher in Chicago and Detroit, Amy moved to Pittsburgh and joined the Agency for Jewish Learning (formerly the JEI) in 1997. Her involvement in her local Jewish community brought her to the AJL as the coordinator of Adult Education. As a religious school teacher at Beth El Congregation, Amy exemplified the love of K'lal Yisrael and Judaism and was a natural to continue the Melton tradition that began in Pittsburgh in 1993. She is the proud director of over 800 graduates and her program continues to flourish. Her enthusiasim for Judaism extends beyond the Melton classroom as she is also extremely involved in ensuring a Jewish future for our youth. Amy has been active in Jewish youth work for 15 years and is currently the USY Director for Ben Gurion USY. She feels an immense sense of accomplishment to be able to effect both teens and adults. A rare combination...a spectacular feat!! Amy is married to Dan (26 years!!) and is the proud mother of Samuel 24, Joseph 21 and Jacob 19.
